Member of the State Assembly; District 48

Mike Meza was born in East Los Angeles and raised in the Maravilla Housing projects. He attended Our Lady of Solitude elementary and graduated from Salesian High School (class of 70).

Mike moved into the district over 35 years ago. He has lived in Baldwin Park, Charter Oak, Covina and West Covina. He has invested in properties in Azusa, Baldwin Park, Charter Oak, Covina and Valinda. Mike has struggled with unemployment, underemployment and the pursuit of the American dream; homeownership. His experiences have truly taught him the value of a dollar.

What has resonated with Mike is what a manager once told him. "It's not how much you make it's what you do with what you have." Mike interpreted this adage to mean that spending preceded earnings. Mike has applied this thinking to acquire rental and commercial property, open a business and provide to various charities. While not a wealthy man Mike has been able to do the best with his earnings and in this recent great depression stave off major losses.

Mike has worked in a myriad of industries from aerospace to construction to automotive to law enforcement and real estate; the last two the most recent occupations.

He retired from the Pasadena Police Department as a Sergeant and worked primarily vice, narcotics and money laundering cases. He was a cross-designated DEA agent as a Task Force Officer targeting major violators. His undercover activities were curtailed somewhat when a credible threat to kill him was intercepted on a court authorized wire tap.

As a businessman, Mike has realized the difficulty in sustaining a viable enterprise. Substantial investment is required before the first dollar is made which is then followed by continuous costs to keep the enterprise going. He looks admirably on all those small business that continue to struggle through this present economy.

He is more than prepared to address the district's as well as the state's issues.

Solidly middle class, Mike is currently a Broker and Tax Preparer. He possesses a Bachelor's Degree, a California Department of Real Estate Broker's License, a California Tax and Education Council certificate, and is a lifetime member of the California Narcotics Officer's Association.

Married to Irene, he lives in Covina along with their college children Marcela and Cruz. The family attends St. Louise de Marillac Catholic Church. In addition to the church he supports Youth Ministry, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 22 and the Southland Young Marines.
