BUILD A THRIVING 21ST CENTURY JOB CENTER & REGIONAL INNOVATION HUBBy Anu NatarajanCandidate for Mayor; City of Fremont | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I envision a thriving job center with new and innovative businesses, incubator facilities, a convention/business center anchoring the mixed-use neighborhood that will develop around the BART station and take advantage of the regional transit facility. On Council, I have placed emphasis on job creation and talked about the importance of providing good infrastructure, amenities and a sense of place to attract new businesses to Fremont while making sure our existing businesses thrive. I want to put Fremont on a solid path to job creation by ensuring that local businesses can succeed and new businesses can take root. As your Mayor, I will work to create a more vibrant community for Fremont families by attracting more retail and entertainment options like specialty stores, restaurants, museums, and nightlife. And I will ensure that we continue to build on Fremont's strong community parks, excellent schools, and safe neighborhoods. The reason to focus on job creation is simple. In addition to providing good paying jobs for Fremont residents, it increases revenues for the City. Increased revenues translate to better city services for the community + more police officers on the street, staffing all fire stations without a blackout, better maintained streets and infrastructure and a focus providing more for our communities. The new BART station at Warm Springs will open in 2015. The extension, which is currently under construction, will connect Fremont with Silicon Valley. 850 aces of land around the BART station is vacant or under-utilized with the potential for significant development. I envision a thriving job center with new and innovative businesses, incubator facilities, a convention/business center anchoring the mixed-use neighborhood that will develop around the BART station and take advantage of the regional transit facility. In the past year, Fremont was rated as the number one destination in the country for new tech startups, the second most innovative city with 2200 patents and 85% of venture funding for green tech businesses in the East Bay. With the advent of BART from Fremont to San Jose, I will ensure that Fremont takes its rightful place in Silicon Valley, with Warm Springs as its regional hub, and continue to bring new businesses to Fremont. As Mayor, I will promote the Warm Springs area as the ideal location for a center for regional innovation and a center for high-tech, and green-tech companies. As your Mayor, I will support completing that Innovation Scorecard and bring local industry leaders together to create and enhance our innovation economy anchored primarily in Warm Springs. I will strengthen my friendships and relationships in Silicon Valley to move Fremont forward and advance the Warm Springs area as a regional hub for our emerging innovation economy. |
