Education and Qualifications:

Thank you for the opportunity to serve the Orinda community as a member of the City Council and as Mayor.

I feel that we have accomplished a lot over the past few years. Despite difficult financial conditions, the city has maintained a balanced budget, a prudent reserve and avoided many of the post-retirement pension and healthcare obligations that are hurting other cities. We have reduced staff and expenses but have done so in a way that minimizes impacts on services to residents.

I am particularly proud of our efforts to involve more citizens in the decision-making process of our town. We have established new advisory and oversight committees on finances, infrastructure and traffic safety. This has made our governance more inclusive and transparent.

We have improved the planning and design review process. This has benefited homeowners who want to improve their property as well as residents who want to ensure that remodeling fits into the character of our unique neighborhoods.

Importantly, the Council has worked hard to spend our scarce road repair dollars in a way that maximizes benefit and cost efficiency. We have also had success in securing federal and regional road repair grants. In a new term, road and drain improvements will continue to be my highest priority.

All of these accomplishments were the result of a City Council that is working well with each other and the greater community.
