Official Statement for Victoria Smith

My name is: Victoria Smith My age is: My occupation is: Orinda City Councilmember and Attorney Education and Qualifications: Orinda is a small City with big-league volunteers, who work hard to support the city, the arts, and our great schools. As a Councilmember I thank the dedicated volunteers who have inspired me. Together, we have accomplished much: Rebuilding major roads, working to promote emergency preparedness, building the first two beautiful playing fields at Wilder, adopting a prudent reserve policy while at the same time balancing our budget during these tough economic years, creating development policies at Theatre Square which have resulted in a 95% occupancy rate, and bringing art to our community spaces. But there remain some important goals and challenges. We must execute our plan to develop funding to fix our roads. We need additional grants to implement our Walkways Plan for recreation and transportation. We must work together to plan to revitalize our Downtown and provide more services for our residents. We must ensure that our new garbage contracts provide innovative recycling programs. We need to engage our young and senior residents to use their strength, energy and wisdom for the collective benefit of our community. These are challenging but also exciting times to be involved in local government. Wick and I moved here when our sons, Will and Daniel, were pre-schoolers. Our family has enjoyed the opportunities offered by our great schools, scouts, and our wonderful outdoors. I would appreciate your thoughts on how to best maintain and enhance our quality of life, at http://www.voteforvictoria.com, and I thank you for your support in this election. |
