1. What experience and training would you bring to this office?

Answer from Mayra E. Cruz:
I am an educator with a background in program and fiscal management. I have been an elementary school teacher, counselor, administrator, and community college teacher, and director. My life has been dedicated to the education system and I have a long history of serving Silicon Valley's diverse communities. Currently I serve as Trustee for San Jose Evergreen Community College District. I teach at De Anza College.

2. What do you see as the role of the Board in labor negotiations?

The Board empowers the Chancellor and the labor negotiations team to work collaboratively to reach to obtain concessions and to reach settlements.The board does not disrupt or participate in labor negotiations. The board members are kept informed of the progress of negotiations.

3. What are your goals for the college? Are students, faculty and staff currently meeting those goals?

The goals for the college are directly related to these priorities.
1. Achieve the highest educational standards for SJECCD and colleges
2. Finalize and adopt Student Success Policy
3. Advocate for a well-funded community college system that is open to all
