When I was seven years old, I worked on my first campaign, for a state representative in Alaska who ran for US Senate. Working alongside my mom taught me valuable lessons in working hard for something you believe in, staying committed to your values, and contributing to your community.

These lessons led me to volunteer on health issues, then to getting my Masters in Public Health, and then to my career as a health professional. They are a part of how my husband and I are raising our three children and they are why I have worked as a non-profit leader for almost 20 years. These lessons, and a passion for the work are why I ran for school board 7 years ago and why I am running for the board of supervisors now.

This passion and these lessons will underpin the work I will do as county supervisor. I will focus on balancing our budget by making government more efficient, including reviewing all county managers and consultants making over $100,000 annually, preserving vital county services such as health care programs and creating jobs by ensuring a well-prepared workforce.

To face our changes will take effective collaboration across governmental entities and with non-profits and business + the kind of collaboration that I currently do as a school board member, and have done throughout my career. It will take someone who can build relationships among people with different interests, solicit input from a wide range of stakeholders, and make tough decisions even when they aren't popular.

Over my seven years on the Redwood City School Board, our district has faced budget challenges and shifts in how we have to work. I want to put the lessons I learned as a child, my public health background, almost 20 years leading non-profits, and seven years of experience as a school board member, to work to build a healthier San Mateo County and make this county the best place to live, work and raise a family.
