The first thing we need to do is create more jobs for the residents of South Los Angeles. Our community deserves more well-paying jobs that support families right here in the 9th District. I will work with businesses, non-profits, local workforce centers and community members to create jobs, and provide vocational skills training and apprenticeship opportunities for our residents. We have a real opportunity to modernize our infrastructure, better utilize our commercial and industrial space and train our workforce to develop a new business-friendly district in our city.
I also plan to address the needs of the young families and children in the District. I intend to build a partnership between the 9th District's schools, churches, non-profits, the City's Police Department and the Department of Recreation and Parks to support our children's education, to perform needs assessments, and to share information and resources about the quality and quantity of the programs serving our youth. I believe we have a moral calling to compete for the hearts and minds of our children to set them on positive and productive paths to help them avoid the trappings of crime, gangs and addiction.
