What I bring to the GUSD Board of EducationBy Joylene K. WagnerCandidate for Board Member; Glendale Unified School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Reasons to re-elect Joylene WagnerI love the work I do on the board in this district: carefully considering the issues, collaborating with my colleagues, discussing policies with our superintendent, listening to the concerns of parents, teachers, students, and the community at large, and cheering on our students! I bring 28 years of school and community experience and relationships and have been committed to serving all our students since my first year in PTA. As an elected delegate to the California School Boards Association and a representative to the Five Star Coalition of local school districts, I interact with board members from across the state and with our local legislators, working to improve student success. I'm a strong and active advocate for helping students prepare for college AND careers, and I'm a life-long supporter and long-time participant in arts education. As Chair of the Verdugo School-to-Career Coalition and Co-Vice Chair of the Verdugo Workforce Investment Board, I'm delighted to have helped bring about the recent engineering careers conference at Glendale Community College. As a volunteer on the board of Glendale Arts, I've loved collaborating these past two years to give our students the chance to perform with Glendale Pops on stage at the Alex Theater. Budgetary challenges remain for school districts in California, but I'm optimistic about the great opportunities ahead in public education. I ask for your vote to continue my work supporting excellence in the Glendale Unified School District. |
