Single Payer aka Medicare for All fills in the gaps in Obamacare.The Affordable Care Act/Obamacare did take a few steps in the right direction, allowing sons and daughters to remain insured under their parents' policies until age 26, blocking insurers from refusing coverage to someone for a pre-existing condition, but the ACA left so much undone. The ball was dropped on the Public Option. We need to have the ability to negotiate for decent drug prices and getting insurance companies out of the equation. These corporations operate the death panels that Fox News said that the ACA would bring about. These corporations don't offer alternatives. Their battle cry is, "No!" No, you don't need that operation, no we won't cover that cost though we originally said we would. Removing the insurance corporations from the equation would also account for average savings of up to 30% on administrative costs. There also needs to be a menu of standardized costs for treatments and items as mundane as aspirin and dispensing of meds. Why is a patient at one hospital charged fifty cents for two aspirin and another charged $20? |
