Governing Board Member; South Whittier Elementary School District

• CANDIDATE'S STATEMENT

  Dear Neighbor:

  During the past four years South Whittier School District has experienced "deep budget cuts" creating Job losses, Lower Wages & Morale among the District's employees...

  Credit our South Whittier School District professional teachers & staff for their efforts! They have set aside "personal hardships" working to ensure "Student Success!" The passage of Proposition 30 helps local school districts fill some of the "budget gaps" created by previous deficit budgets from the State. Now, with dedicated "Teamwork" we can move the entire District forward!

  During my two terms on the South Whittier School Board (2001-2009), the District accomplished some wonderful things on behalf of our students:

• Student test scores improved overall;
• Modernized all school sites;
• Completed new wing at Graves Middle School;
• Enhanced before and after school programs;
• Recruited and hired excellent classroom teachers;

  If re-elected to a new term on the Board. I pledge to work diligently with my Board colleagues to "restore" some of the programs and positions that were previously lost through the budget crisis and to further "Build" confidence among our employees, parents, students, and South Whittier community.
