Political Philosophy for Karen E. Schmidt
Candidate for |
The role of a City Council member in San Mateo is primarily about making informed decisions that promote the prosperity of our local businesses, the quality of life for our citizens, and the vitality of our infrastructure. It is a position that should demand candidates of an unbiased nature in a non-partisan arena, for it requires voting on Union Labor contracts and Major awards that are best not driven by political agendas; rather, outcomes that benefit the balanced needs of our common welfare. I am a moderate, when it comes to claiming a political position. I have been a practicing Roman Catholic most of my life, yet firmly believe in the separation of church and state, and balance in power. Our economy of late has constricted government services, which I think is a good thing for it fosters self reliance and creativity- mechanisms that have driven my life's career. My salary has never been payed by tax payers, or non-profits, rather the measure of my performance in the competitive private sector. I am running for office because I want to bring my successful business instincts and humanitarian compassion to the meal with the minds at the table. If you assess my associated declarations, you will see that I am not backed by any politically charged organizations, just hard working professionals that know my intentions and broad experience are more than enough to champion the role. |
