Answer from Barbara Hurt-Simmons:
Downingtown Area School District is a national leader in health and wellness initiatives. Nutritional guidelines and food products are changing often and students are not always willing to try the latest food changes. Nutritional issues are not just found in the cafeteria during lunch, but are found in the classroom in many settings. While serving as a board representative on the Student Life committee, I've helped in arranging for our food providers to meet with our students to discuss the need for food changes and to share ideas on how to educate students. I support our wellness initiatives and how we drive these ideas to each student at the school level through our wellness school councils. Safe, healthy and nutritionally fed children perform their best in school.
