Hattie McFrazier, born and raised in a family of six in a small, rural town in Northern Louisiana, Hattie attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA where she received her B.S. in Social Science and a M.S. in Social Science and Curriculum. She has 31 years of service as an educator for the Los Angeles Unified School District. Mrs. McFrazier always puts the needs of others first and has had a lasting impact on people of all ages and backgrounds. She dedicates herself to causes she is truly passionate about and is family-oriented, a mentor, friend, bold with firm beliefs, shaped by southern roots; a strong, assertive, and gifted woman. Before moving to Los Angeles in the late 70s, Hattie taught in Louisiana and North Carolina. She also worked for the U.S. Postal Service. Her teaching career began in South Los Angeles at Charles Drew Middle School as a Social Studies teacher in 1980. She also taught at Locke High School, Curtiss Middle School and Cooper Continuation School as a Social Studies and Mathematics teacher. She returned to Locke High School as a Pupil Services and Attendance Counselor where she worked for 13 years and served as a Crisis Team Leader, on the Parent Advisory Board and Shared Decision Making Council. She was very active in the community. After leaving Locke High School, she continued to be an advocate for all students and worked as a School Attendance Review Board Chairperson for the last 15 years. Mrs. McFrazier believes that every child deserves a quality education and a second chance. Mrs. McFrazier is a community and union activist and has served on many committees, councils and boards. For example, the Focus on Student's Achievement Council, Board of Education School Safety Student Health and Human Services and Human Relations, LAUSD District Crisis Team, LAUSD Counseling Support Services Action Plan Committee, UTLA School Reform Committee, Parent Community Advisory Council, and the Local Education Agency (LEA) Collaborative Committee. She currently serves as the UTLA Health and Human Services Director and Local District 8 Health and Human Services Chairperson. She is also a member of UTLA PACE, California Teacher's Association/Association for Better Citizenship (ABC), CTA State Council, and is a delegate for the NEA Representative Assembly. Mrs. McFrazier is a leader, sorority sister, counselor, teacher, and historian. She is currently the Far Western Regional Director of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc.; a group of professional women whose focus is excellence in education for all children. She is the past president of South Bay Branch of the National Association of University Women and a member of Alpha Gamma Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She is admired for the many roles she has played in her church. Lastly, she is married and has one daughter. |
