Candidate for
Councilmember; City of Torrance

Alex See is currently serving his seventh year on the Torrance Water Commission; serving as the chairperson from 2009 to 2010. He has served on the Torrance-South Bay YMCA Board of Managers since 2008; serving as Program Committee chair from 2009 to 2012. He also sits on the board of the Torrance Symphony Association.

Alex came to America from Malaysia at the age of 21 to pursue his American dream and has worked in Torrance for 23 years. He chose to relocate his family into our community for its excellent school district and outstanding public safety record. Alex has a master's degree in Computer Science/Engineering, holds a top secret clearance and worked as a senior engineer/project manager at an engineering risk management firm in Torrance, for which he currently acts as a consultant. He has over 20 years of experience in providing rocket launch support and petrochemical facility hazard and risk analysis. Alex is also an entrepreneur and co-owner of a South Torrance restaurant. Alex actively participates in many Torrance school support groups. He has been sitting on Torrance South High School's Site Council since 2009 and previously served two terms on the TUSD school bond Independent Citizens' Oversight Committee. Additionally, Alex is a longtime volunteer and former principal of the Torrance Chinese School. He has also served as vice president for the Chinese American Parent Support Group of Torrance (CAPSGOT). In January 2010, Alex was recognized by the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce for his dedicated service to the city of Torrance and its Chinese-American Community. Alex is a current referee and former soccer coach for the South Torrance region of the American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO). He is currently a member of the Arts Council of Torrance and the Torrance Historical Society. Alex and his wife Mei Ling have two daughters and one son. Their daughters graduated from Torrance South High School and then attended UC Irvine and UC Santa Barbara, and his son is currently a sophomore at South High.
