Pamela Conley Ulich is a wife, mother, lawyer, former Mayor and Councilmember, writer and community activist. Most importantly, Pam is a person of action who is passionate about making her community and our planet better for future generations.

Pam has always been someone who questions the status quo - someone who stands for what she believes in. From a young age, Pam has challenged the system. Back in the early 70's, she was one of the first girls to play in an all Boys Baseball League. While more common today, Pam was a trailblazer and that spirit can be seen in her campaign today.

Pam is fearless. From her volunteer work in Congresswoman Pat Schroeder's office fighting for families and equality to her work in the community serving on the City Council and as Mayor she had been a clear voice, undaunted, an underdog, with the spirit of a pit bull when circumstances require.

Pam is driven by her family and friends and the struggles of the working class. She is a family driven challenger to big money and special interests. She believes, as Winston Churchill eloquently explained, "You make a living by what you get and a life by what you give." According to Emily Belanger, "Pamela's passion, commitment and energy are an inspiration. While most of us might say, "Someone should do something about.... (insert an issue here - whether it be protecting California's coast, advocating for children, etc.)," Pamela BECOMES that someone!!! She is a nexus for connections and growth among many different communities."

Pam was born in Kansas, raised back in the days when a working middle-class family could make ends meet. When she was 18, she followed her dream to live in the great State of California. She graduated from Capistrano Valley High School in Orange County and obtained a Bachelor of Science from the University of California San Diego while working at Central Library and Scripps Library to help pay her tuition and books.

Pam was the first in her family to attend law school and passed the California bar in 1993.

Her father Jim is one of thirteen children from an Irish/Italian family in New York and was raised in an orphanage. He joined the air force and later worked as an airline mechanic in Kansas City. He became a Union organizer for the Machinists Union. Her mother Audrey was born in Hell's kitchen in New York and became a nurse. Both taught her that hard work and dedication can chip away at the boulders that temporarily block your path.

Throughout her life, Pam has served others. In law school, she volunteered at Legal Aid. Her first legal job was practicing labor law for the Union side firm in the Valley (Encino). She fought to protect workers from unfair labor practices before the National Labor Relations Board. She served eight years as legal counsel for both the Screen Actors Guild and Directors Guild of America and was an Adjunct Professor at Pepperdine Law School teaching Entertainment Law Seminars and Labor Law.

After 9-11, Pamela wanted to spend more time with her young infant and toddler, and asked to work on a part-time basis. The Screen Actors Guild Union said working "part-time" would set a dangerous precedent so Pamela had to make a choice between her family and her career.

Pam is not a career politician, she is a mother and an activist.

In 2002, she chose her family and started writing and working at raising her two young children. She took her small children to the LA County Library often and was inspired to make her community library better.

When she decided to run for an open seat on the Malibu City Council in 2004, she was told by one local politician that she should stay home and bake cookies for her kids because she would "lose the election".

Pam won the election and was reelected in 2008 with the highest votes to serve on the Malibu City Council. Pam's record while serving from 2004-2012 speaks volumes. She served as the Mayor of Malibu during the 2007 fires and worked closely with LA County Fire and the State of California during the crisis. She spearheaded the Malibu Library Needs Assessment to improve library services and worked with LA County to fund the $6 million to Library Renewal project, which was completed in April 2012, the day before she was termed out of office.

She also:

  • Worked on grassroots opposition campaign and advised local, state and federal official offices to successfully oppose offshore Liquefied Natural Gas facilities proposed by BHP Billiton and Woodside Natural Gas.

  • Maintained a balanced budget for City of Malibu, a AAA rating and established a healthy reserve for the City every year while acquiring Bluff's Park, building Legacy Park and acquiring and renovating the first Malibu owned City Hall.

  • Worked with community to promote buy local campaign and expand small business opportunities.

  • Banned plastic bags in Malibu in 2008.

  • Spearheaded LA Paparazzi Task Force and created Citizen's Guide for Safety while Mayor in 2008.

  • Promoted the arts and culture.

  • Helped grass roots organizations like the Malibu Arts Foundation, an organization devoted to promoting the arts in Malibu and the Malibu Green Machine, an organization dedicated to greening Malibu.

  • Hosted Emergency Town Hall Meetings and Preparation events.

  • Encouraged civil discourse.

Pam believes the biggest issue facing Democracy is Government and Political Campaigns fueled by Corporations and Big Money. Should more money be raised in the name of saving us from the influence of money in politics? David didn't beat Goliath by playing his game. What troubles Pam is the fact that money is used as a barrier to keep average people out of politics. If you are not rich enough or politically connected enough does that mean you can't have a voice?

The time has come for a Spring rising revolution where the success of a campaign is measured by whether it helps Los Angeles and increases participation in Democracy. Pam has issued a challenge to all candidates to give back to non-profits that make LA better now. Together, all candidates could infuse over $1 to $2 million by June 3, 2014.

Pam has a plan to make LA County better. Issues such as emergency preparedness, the economy, the environment and education form the pillars of the Team Love LA campaign. The people of the 3rd District, not corporate special interests or political money making machines, power our campaign. If elected, Pam will bring Respect, Reform and Revolutionary creative solutions for the problems facing LA County and it's citizens.

Pam's priority is simple - People in LA come first.
