Political Philosophy for Carol A. Brown
Candidate for |
I seek to be a Trustee of the Orinda Union School District because I am passionate about children and education. I have devoted my life to standing up for kids. As a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), I advocate with attorneys and social workers in Superior Court for abused and neglected children who are in the foster care system. I know how to work with and through bureaucracies to get to the heart of problems. Our students are great. Our schools, parents, and teachers are great. But our district must serve them better. Greater collaboration with all of our stakeholders--parents, teachers, students and the community--will improve the quality of education for our students. We need to treat stakeholders with respect and give them a real seat at the table during discussions that affect classrooms and students. I am committed to a board that reflects the community's values and priorities. Our children and parents deserve Trustees who genuinely listen, take concerns seriously, and take action to rectify problems. I will listen, then act to fix problems when they are brought to my attention. I will take responsibility. We need greater fiscal responsibility and transparency. We must develop priorities with stakeholders before spending millions, and we must ensure accountability, so that your money is spent as promised. I will demand transparency. I am the mother of five wonderful children. Like many in Orinda, my husband and I moved to our town for the quality of the schools. Our youngest son went from kindergarten through high school in Orinda schools. I'm proud of my California public school education. All of our children deserve a fabulous education in an emotionally safe environment. I will be a powerful advocate for our children, parents, teachers, and community. I respectfully ask for your vote. |
