Candidate for
Board Member; Saratoga Union School District

My husband, John, and I have lived in Saratoga, California for fourteen years. We moved to this area primarily because of the excellent reputation of the public schools. We have had four children attend Saratoga schools and we have experienced every grade level in SUSD. Currently, we have two sons who have graduated from the University of California at Berkeley and two daughters who attend colleges in Texas.

Having school-age children gave me ample opportunity to volunteer through different organizations from 200-2013. I have had leadership roles in the Argonaut Elementary PTA, the Redwood Middle School PTA, the Saratoga Music Boosters, the Saratoga Education Foundation, and the Saratoga High School PTSO.

Several years ago, I returned to school and completed the Multiple Subject Credential with Bilingual, Cross-cultural, Language, and Academic Development (BCLAD) Emphasis from San Jose State University. This allowed me to work in the Saratoga Union School District as an English Learners Instructional Aid at Argonaut Elementary and Saratoga Elementary as well as teach Spanish at Redwood Middle School from 2006-2008.

In April of 2010, I was appointed to the Saratoga Union School Board after an unexpected vacancy. And in November of 2012, I was elected for a four year term. In the last four and half years, I have learned about the policies and protocols that govern our school board, the budget process, the collective bargaining process and the curriculum and instruction that takes place at each school.

Because of my experience as a parent, volunteer, teacher and Trustee, I feel I bring a unique perspective to the school board. I pride myself in being a good listener and looking at every issue from different viewpoints before making decisions. Saratoga is a great school district because of our supportive community, involved parents, dedicated staff and a school board that communicates with each of these groups and provides leadership. I feel the knowledge and experience I bring to the board are an asset to our district. With your support, I look forward to continuing the tradition of excellence in our schools.
