This information is provided by the candidate |
2014 ElectionI am John R. Hamon Jr., a fourth generation son of the central coast who's Portuguese great grandfather came to this country from the Azores to work on the Cuesta grade train tunnel project back in the 1890's Being the oldest child of four, raised in Lompoc, our father, a mostly out of work union plumber in the 60's who was a son of Oklahoma dust bowl emigrants, child of the great depression and a WWII Pilot who was a POW survivor in Germany and a Catholic Portuguese mother, who had probably the toughest job in the family of six, cooking, feeding, clothing, doing the shopping and laundry, and getting us to where we all had be every day of the week. My roots come from parents who were the "Greatest Generation". Growing up we were taught to be determined,- to see things through, prudent + to exercise good judgment, and to be honest, consistent and dependable. These and the many other leadership qualities learned at home and through Scouting earned me the Eagle Scout Rank at the early age of 14. In High School I studied to be above a B average. The sport of Water Polo showed me what team work can do to achieve heights an individual cannot do alone and Swimming gave me the humility that there were faster swimmers than I but that with personal work and effort, I - would be the one to improve John Hamon's times and not the team. 1972 found me heading off to college where I had made a choice to hit the books instead of continuing sports and I got it done in four years graduating in 1976 from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with a BA from the school of Industrial Technology. I married my wife Marjorie; we began our household of four and a family business in the garage door industry with only one employee. Working long hard 60 hour weeks, making mostly the right decisions, and investing wisely in myself and others, I consider Hamon Overhead Door, after 38 years, a trade leader on our central coast with two stores and employing seventeen. Garage Door Jamin? Time to Call Hamon Raising a business and a family took a lot of time, but I had been taught to give back to others as much as I could so I became a Eucharistic Minister at St Rose Catholic Church, which I feel so honored to do still after 30 years; serving our son John and other boys in Boy Scout Troop 60 as its committee chair for many years and continue in Scouting today as its charter representative; serving our City for nearly 19 years as a volunteer fireman and Captain; became a Rotarian whose motto is "Service Above Self" and was elected President in 2004; Chaired the City Planning Commission; founding and current board member for tehPaso Robles Children's Museum, Chamber of Commerce board member; and helped steer my alma mater Cal Poly as an Industrial Technology Dept. advisory board member. Being elected in 2006 to the Paso Robles City Council, I have the honor to serving on the Integrated Waste Management Authority as current board member and past chair, SLO Air Pollution Control District as current board member and past chair, the Nacimiento Water Project Commission as current board member and past chair, current city council liaison for the PR Youth Sports Commission, PRHS Youth Leadership Commission, and the PR Parks and Recreation Commission. It has been my honor and privilege to serve my fellow Roblans as Councilmember for the last eight years. I am an experienced, proven, and trusted leader in matters of city and county government. As a financially responsible small business owner I vote prudently with precious public tax dollars and listen carefully to our Roblans' concerns on issues that they are passionate about. Carrying their message and suggestions to the Dias, I strive to work collaboratively with my other colleagues to hopefully come to a mutual agreement that is beneficial to all concerned. City Council Jamin? Time To Call Hamon....I remain committed to always working in the best interest of Paso Robles and to continue representing our Citizens' hopes for our town. I ask for the honor of your vote of confidence to continue to serve on your City Council. Thank you for your past support of me and making Paso Robles a very special place. Committee to Elect John R.
