What's The Priority On A Student's Educational Needs?

By Tony D. Inocentes

Candidate for Board Member; Sweetwater Union High School District; Seat 2

This information is provided by the candidate
Having money to catch the school bus to school or home should not be a concern. Shouldn't the intial priority of a school board be to ensure students get to school to learn?
Something's wrong when a family's emphasis is having money available to ensure a student has a ride on a public school bus to go to a public school!

Students often times are required to purchase special materials at Office Depot or other stores in order to complete classroom assignments.

These are just a few things a family must have cash resources readily available for, for a student attending public school these days.

Why?

Because the current school board has other higer priorities! But what other higher priority should a school system have but to ensure that a student can get to school to get educated?

This is an example why I believe the school needs to reprioritize it's budget. Funds for transportation should be high on the list. Funds to guarantee all students have access to the same quality of tools and materials used for classroom projects should be high on the list. One students ability to have cash or transportation readily availabe should not be an advantage in their ablility to complete a class assignment or get a public education!

The school's budget is top heavy with items that do not help place a student in the right position or frame of mind to get an education.

When elected to the Board of Trustees I will speak out to address that basics are met first to guarantee all of a students educational needs are met first before hiring any additional staff or outside consultants!
