Lack Of Public SafetyBy Steven R. VillegasCandidate for Sheriff/Coroner/Public Administrator; County of Monterey | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Public safety is one of the most important issues that must be addressed. People want to feel safe within their homes and within their community. People want their children to feel safe and have that sense of security. At the present moment, the Sheriff's department is understaffed to the point where they cannot provide the service that the community deserves. By increasing our patrol manpower, we decrease the response time and provide a more visible presence and sense of security in the unincorporated areas. By increasing the minimum staffing at the jail, we increase officer safety and are able to provide professional service within the jail and outside its' walls. We need to get back to the basics with attention to the ever-changing needs of this diverse community. |
