RedevelopmentBy Bruce GregoCandidate for City Council Member; City of South Lake Tahoe | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I support redevelopment as a means for improving our community, but I believe it can be done differently.I would like to see development of smaller projects to benefit local businesses in the community. Redevelopment must pay for itsself. Last year it was reported that the City unwittingly subsidized redevelopment by $7 million dollars with funding from the general budget. We obviously need to double our efforts in assuring that the financial proposals connected with these projects make sense. I would want to see more for our small business people. Wouldn't it have been an asset to have the renters at the Marriott center be "owners" instead. I would have liked to have seen it more like a commercial condominium, where each business owner owns their own piece of success. I support the construction of the convention center. It is through this medium that we can hope to strengthen our tourist industry with midweek and off season business in all of our tourist related industries. |
