ABOUT ALICE JACOBSON Alice Jacobson's extensive community service work--finding solutions to many of the most pressing challenges facing our community--demonstrates that she has been a leader helping our city find the best solutions to key issues. Alice has diligently worked for good planning, sound fiscal management, and safe neighborhoods for our children and families. She has been a fighter for affordable housing and a strong supporter of preserving what is best about Encinitas. Alice has been an active community leader in Encinitas for more than 25 years. She was appointed to the Leucadia Community Advisory Board (a design review board established during the incorporation of Encinitas). She served as a member of the Encinitas Planning Commission from 1992 until 2002. Her fellow commissioners, recognizing her strength in leadership, elected Alice Chair of the Commission from 1993 until 2001. Under her leadership, Encinitas shaped its future as it developed the specific plans for such important projects as the Encinitas Ranch--a plan that included the Town Center, 900 residential units, the 18-hole golf course, hiking trails, and an elementary school soon to be built. Her business acumen has been strengthened as the Administrative/Operations Manager of Western Financial Planning Corp. where Alice has been employed since 1980. As a board member of the Community Resource Center from 1992 to 1999, Vice President in 1996-97, and currently on its Advisory Board, Alice has distinguished herself as a successful fund-raising leader helping to provide essential services to our community's homeless and low-income families. A founding member of the San Dieguito Heritage Museum, Alice has served on the Board of Directors since 1993. Under Alice's direction as Board President from 1999 to 2004, the Museum secured a 55-year lease with the City of Encinitas for a permanent home. Since 2002, Alice has served on the Board of Directors of Community HousingWorks (formerly Community Housing of North County) and was elected Vice President in 2003. In addition to developing and managing affordable housing, CHW assists low-income families, through both education and loan programs, to buy homes. Alice recently joined the Board of Directors of Cantebria Senior Housing, a low-income complex opening in Fall 2004. Born in Chicago, Illinois on June 13, 1943, Alice earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education from the University of Oklahoma in 1966. While teaching in a Chicago high school, Alice served on the Auxiliary Board of a local Boys & Girls Club where she was instrumental in developing an after-school tutoring program. Alice has received numerous accolades for her many works. In July 1992, Soroptimist International of Encinitas presented her with a Women of Distinction award for her exemplary community service and for serving as a role model to young professionals. In 1989, the City of Encinitas honored Alice as an outstanding Volunteer of the Year. Alice Jacobson brings extraordinary ability, experience, and accomplishment to the City of Encinitas. She is running for Encinitas City Council to answer the call to service--just as she has answered that call all her life. |
