Everyone has a certain set of life experiences and skill sets that they can bring to the table. What makes me a great candidate is that I'm an ordinary guy, doing an extraordinary job.
As a firefighter I work for Cal Fire, the the largest multipurpose emergency service and resource protection agency within the United States, with 3,000 employees. My ranger unit alone is responsible for over 1.35 million acres of state responsibility area as well as local responsibility area. Cal Fire is an all risk agency responding to over 300,000 calls for service per year. Along with fire suppression and emergency medical services, we are trained in all aspects of emergency responses.
Recently Cal Fire assigned me to administration. I was one of a handful of people responsible for the inner workings of the Santa Clara Unit, which covers 5 counties including Contra Costa, Alameda, San Jose, San Joaquin, and Santa Clara. We managed finance, human resources, cost recovery, and budget for the unit, which encompasses 16 fire stations and 32 fire apparatus. It was like a small government.
Formerly a licensed paramedic, I have also spent a number of years working in the private sector for an ambulance company providing advanced life support as well as basic life support transport services to the citizens of Solano County.
And somewhere in between, I was the chef/owner of a renowned restaurant in San Francisco which earned numerous awards and accolades including best sushi, best new restaurant, best chef, and best place for a first date from publications including the San Francisco Bay Guardian and the Sf Weekly. Numerous publications such as 7x7, the San Francisco Chronicle, and San Francisco magazine lauded Midori Mushi as well. In a nutshell, I am a well rounded guy with a wide range of life experience. |
