Vickie Driver has lived in Solana Beach for over 15 years with her husband and two children (Nathan and Emily). She is a scientist with a BS in Microbiology, a Certificate in Pharmacology and Toxicology, 12 patents in drug discovery and gene modulation and over 30 scientific publications and presentations. She is also an entrepreneur, co-founding a successful Sorrento Valley-based biotech company. Leadership and an understanding of the community's needs are not foreign to Vickie. She has been a member of the Community Emergency Response Team for 6 years, currently serves as an Operations Leader, and is a member of the CERT Advisory Board serving Solana Beach, Encinitas, Del Mar and Rancho Santa Fe. Vickie's key focus has always been safety for the residents of Solana Beach. She co-developed the "Are You Ready Solana Beach?" disaster preparedness program and has served as co-presenter for 5 years. She has served for 4 years as a Solana Beach Public Safety Commissioner and currently as the Commission chair. In addition to her commitment to children, safety and the sciences, Vickie and her family serve as a Foster Family for the Helen Woodward Animal Center. She is a member of the Solana Beach Civic and Historical Society and a member of the Solana Beach Garden Club. Vickie also served 7 years as a San Diego County Science Fair Judge. Vickie co-founded her biotech company in 2004 and knows what it takes to work hard with minimal assets, stick to a budget, and make a company successful. Her experience and background as a scientist would bring to the council a unique, analytical view on issues presented. Vickie is trained to research and understand topics presented to her, and then make successful decisions based on those facts. Utilizing her skills, Vickie has effectively managed many groups, projects, and budgeted contracts. |
